SPECTACLE ISLAND, NOVA SCOTIA

In 2002 Bernt Kuhlmann purchased Spectacle Island in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. In 2012 he asked architects Lucy Begg and Robert Gay of Thoughtbarn in Austin to help him design a 'Fish Camp' to be used as a private summer retreat for couples and small groups.

The elongated shape of the island is reminiscent of a  ship, with the central cluster of cottages (two more to come), located on a large, elevated wooden platform, that feels very much like the ship's pilot station and deck.

Spectacle is scheduled to open to the public in 2013.
