In 2016 Bernt purchased a three-acre property in the Texas Hill Country, not far from Austin. The Texas Cabin that came with the property was in very poor condition. Bernt had the cabin stripped to the rafters and worked with architects Lucy Begg and Robert Gay to reprogram the interiors along the lines of a New York loft. He imported signature Zirbenholz from Austria for custom cabinetry and wall paneling. This remarkable wood is used often for the interior finishes of homes and hotels in the Austrian, Swiss and French Alps. Its signature fragrance never goes away, and has various health benefits.
